Description
13-year-old Maria lives with her grandmother in a dreary industrial town, where she doesn’t have many friends or distractions. When she befriends the outspoken Kristina, Marija is introduced to a local modeling school. In this intense environment, the girls dream of a future a little less dreary than their current lives, even if they have to violate their body or their health in the process. With this story, Lithuanian director Bliuvaitė explores the concept of the human body as a project, currency and source of pain and magic. And that pays off: the film won the Grand Jury Prize at the Locarno Film Festival.
