Description
The psychedelic and surreal cult classic in which a colorful ensemble embarks on a quest to the ‘Holy Mountain’ in search of enlightenment. With this mystical, grotesque film, Chilean director Alejandro Jodorowsky completely turned the Cannes Film Festival upside down back in 1973. At LIFF, you can (re)admire this film with a brand new live soundtrack by saxophonist and composer Mattias De Craene.
Mattias De Craene, Belgian saxophonist, composer and producer, is a member of Nordmann and frontman of trance-inducing trio MDCIII. In his solo project, Mattias De Craene takes the contemplative, cinematic route. This results in a more experimental, but cinematic sound that veers between minimalism and melancholy. He succeeds in telling his story in his very own language, using his sax, tape loops and an electronic setup. He composed this new score for The Holy Mountain in honor of the 50th anniversary of the film. In the past year, he has also transformed the compositions for that new soundtrack into a record: ‘A House Where I Dream’.
