We Were Dangerous

Description

Two Māori teenagers, Nellie and Daisy, try to escape from an institution for criminal girls in 1954 New Zealand. They are caught and transferred to a remote island. Life on the island is dominated by The Matron (Rima Te Wiata, Hunt for the Wilderpeople), a strict teacher who enjoys experimental nighttime punishment. Unbroken, they embark on another daring escape. The film was co-written by filmmaker and cartoonist Maddie Dai and produced by Taika Waititi (Jojo Rabbit, Next Goal Wins).
